🎛️ Prompt Formula That Always Works
Use this structure for consistent, great results:
[Genre] + [Mood] + [Topic/Story] + [Vocal style] + [Key instruments] + [Any special details]
Example: "Upbeat indie pop [genre] + feel-good and optimistic [mood] + about starting a new adventure [topic] + warm male vocals [vocal style] + acoustic guitar and light drums [instruments] + handclaps in the chorus [special detail]"
The more specific you are, the closer the result will be to what you imagined.
🎵 Genre Combos That Work Surprisingly Well
These unusual genre combinations produce the most interesting and shareable results:
Combo | Why it works |
|---|---|
Lo-fi + Jazz | Relaxed, sophisticated, endlessly listenable |
Country + Synthwave | Unexpected and hugely fun - very viral |
Classical + Hip-Hop | Dramatic and creative - great for storytelling |
Reggae + Acoustic Folk | Warm, easy-going, sounds like summer |
80s Pop + Orchestral | Big, nostalgic, cinematic feel |
Type the two genres in your prompt and let Suno blend them. You'll get something no human would think to make - and often it's brilliant.
💡 8 Tips for Better Songs
1. Always generate two versions
Suno creates two variations of every prompt. Always listen to both - the second one is often the better one. Never judge by the first result alone.
2. Be specific about vocals
"Female vocals", "raspy male voice", "choir", "no vocals", "rap" - vocal style dramatically changes the feel of a song. Always specify it.
3. Use the Extend feature for longer songs
If you love the first 90 seconds but want more, click Extend and Suno continues the song in the same style. Build out a full 3-4 minute track this way.
4. Write your own lyrics for personal songs
Switch to Custom Mode and write your own lyrics for birthdays, anniversaries, or anything personal. Suno handles the melody and production - you provide the words.
5. Reference real artists for style
You can include phrases like "in the style of acoustic singer-songwriters" or "inspired by 80s arena rock" - this guides Suno's sound dramatically without naming specific artists.
6. Add production details
Words like "vinyl crackle", "reverb", "808 bass", "studio quality", "live recording feel" change the production style significantly. Experiment with these.
7. Use the Remaster button
Not happy with a song but love the concept? Hit Remaster - Suno regenerates the same song with improved production quality. Often fixes issues without losing what worked.
8. Download and share your favourites
Free plan users can download their songs. Share them with friends, use them as background music for videos, or just keep them for yourself. Your creations are yours to enjoy.
🚫 3 Mistakes Beginners Make
1. Prompts that are too short
❌ "A sad song" ✅ "A melancholic indie folk song about long-distance friendships, soft female vocals, acoustic guitar, slow tempo" Short prompts produce generic results. Add detail and watch the quality jump immediately.
2. Only listening to one version
Suno always generates two. Beginners pick the first one without listening to the second - and often miss the better result.
3. Giving up after one attempt
AI music takes a little experimentation. If a prompt doesn't work, tweak one or two elements and try again. The best songs often come from the third or fourth attempt.
