💡 8 Tips to Get Better Research Results

1. Be specific in your questions "Tell me about climate change" "What does the latest peer-reviewed research say about the effectiveness of carbon pricing policies in European countries?" Specific questions get specific, useful answers.

2. Always verify the citations Perplexity links every claim to a source. Click those links. Make sure the source actually says what Perplexity says it says. AI tools can occasionally misrepresent a source - always check.

3. Use follow-up questions Do not stop at the first answer. Ask "can you go deeper on that second point?" or "what does the research say about the opposing view?" Follow-up questions get you much further than one broad search.

4. Create a Space for each project Set up a separate Space for each essay or research project. All your searches stay organized and you can set custom instructions like "always use peer-reviewed sources only."

5. Use Academic mode + Deep Research together For serious academic writing, combine Academic Focus mode with Deep Research. This is the closest Perplexity gets to having a full-time research assistant.

6. Ask it to explain things simply first Before writing about a complex topic, ask Perplexity to explain it in plain English. Understanding something properly always produces better writing than just copying what you find.

7. Turn findings into flashcards immediately After researching a topic, generate flashcards while the information is fresh. This builds your revision materials automatically as part of your research process.

8. Never copy-paste answers directly into your paper Use Perplexity to understand, find sources, and build arguments - then write in your own words. This is how you use AI ethically and it always produces better work.

🚫 5 Mistakes Students Make With AI Research Tools

1. Using AI answers without checking the sources - Always click the citation links. Perplexity is very reliable but not perfect - verify before you submit.

2. Copying AI output directly into assignments - Use it to research and understand - write the actual paper yourself. Your ideas and voice matter.

3. Not using Academic mode for essay research - Default web search includes all kinds of unreliable sources. Switch to Academic mode for anything that needs proper citations.

4. Asking vague questions - Vague questions get vague answers. Be as specific as possible about your topic, your angle, and what you need.

5. Forgetting to set up Spaces - Most beginners do all their research in one big thread. Create a Space for each project - your organization will thank you by week three of term.
