Hey {{first name | there}}! 👋
Welcome back to AI Made Simple, your weekly dose of AI news and tools, explained without the jargon.
This week the AI video world had one of its most dramatic weeks ever. A mysterious model appeared from nowhere, broke every record, and turned out to be from one of the world's biggest tech companies. Oh, and OpenAI quietly shut down one of its most famous products.
Let's break it all down.
🔥 AI News of the Week
1. A mystery AI video model appeared from nowhere and won everything
Earlier this month, an anonymous AI video model called HappyHorse-1.0 appeared on global AI benchmarks. Nobody knew who made it. Within days it climbed to the #1 spot on every major leaderboard beating every other AI video tool in the world. Then the creators revealed themselves: it was Alibaba, the Chinese tech giant. The margin of victory was the largest ever recorded in AI video benchmarking history. In plain English: a new AI video model just arrived that is better than everything else and it came out of nowhere.
2. OpenAI shut down Sora
OpenAI's much-hyped AI video tool Sora has been officially discontinued as of late March 2026. The reason? It was costing $15 million per day to run but only generated $2.1 million in total lifetime revenue. It simply wasn't financially sustainable. For users, this means Sora is gone but the good news is that other tools like Kling 3.0 and Google Veo 3.1 have already matched or surpassed Sora's quality.
3. Google is now giving free AI video credits to everyone
Google just updated Google Vids to let anyone with a free Google account generate up to 10 AI video clips per month using their latest Veo 3.1 model completely free. No sign-up, no credit card, nothing. Just go to vids.new and start creating. This is a huge deal for beginners wanting to try AI video without spending anything.
